I find it very interesting that Dotson says
writing in three’s makes everything more memorable. As in; Red, White and Blue.
You want to make everything rhythmic, and build every story into a surprise. When
you incorporate soundbites into the piece make sure their emotional and leave
an impression. When the writer is putting all this together they have to make
sure it flows smoothly. The picture has to come first, and then you reflect on
the moment that gave you a lump in your throat. Next what were the main points
of the story that did not include pictures and lastly what was the best closing
shot. Dotson’s main key in all of this is to inform us that the more pictures
and flowing clips/ soundbites the better the outcome.
2.
The name of the story is “ALS patient uses his
eyes to DJ New Year’s Eve” it first aired January 2, 2013.
3.
The club music (like techno-ish), The man
sipping out of the water bottle (slurping sounds), The alarm thing on his bed(like
a ticking noise), Man checking on the microphone (check 1, check 2)
4.
Close up of DJ system, extra close up of his
face, fade of him and deejay equipment, Medium shot of him laying down on bed
and his wife talking sitting on the bed, full panorama of the club area.
5.
The party never stops.

There are a lot of natural sounds in the story which
help us understand how the man is feeling and what his life is like. When he
sipped water out of the bottle and his bed alarm thing went off we interpret
that this man’s life is super difficult/ painful. There was a good picture of
the man before being diagnosed with ALS, he was happy and DJing at the time. The
soundbites are perfect length and help give us information about the man’s
condition. Once in a while they would do an extra close up of the man’s face
and make it emotional and quite. There is also this cool shot where the man’s
face is on the screen and it fades in with the DJing equipment.
